Leadership and team work was put into practice by CHS cricketers when they took part in a masterclass with Lancashire cricketer and county captain, Glen Chapple.
Visiting players from Years 6 to Year 10, including some young county players, Glen captained and guided the students during a 20 over match which focused on the qualities of working together in addition to physical skills.
After leading their own warm-up sessions following the ‘RAMP’ technique, the students considered tactics of ‘intervention’ and considered how, why and when to intervene during a game.
Advising the players and talking about the skills required to make a great captain and how it’s possible to influence a game, Glen said: “It’s not just tactics which are important, you’ve got to make people feel confident and your own attitude will rub off on your team mates. You have to treat the rest of the team as you want to be treated yourself.”
Head of Cricket at CHS, Mr Graham Clinton said: “It’s amazing to have this calibre of player visit the CHS cricketers and this session was a way of teaching the students how to think for themselves, particularly during a match.
